Save your envelopes!

Handmade Notebooks

Ever wondered what to do with all the envelopes that come through your letterbox at home or into your in-tray at work?

Envelopes are a source of great paper.

Paper with patterns – don’t you just love the geometric patterns on the inside of envelopes?

Paper with character – still crisp or a bit shabby around the edges, I love them all.

Paper with a history – the writing of the sender, the stamps, the postmarks.

Paper with a story to tell.

Making envelope paper into handmade notebooks is a fabulous way of re-using before re-cycling. It is a way of making something from pretty much nothing…

and that’s ALCHEMY isn’t it? MAGIC?

Also it is THERAPEUTIC.

It is SATISFYING.

It is FUN!

It is MONEY SAVING.

It is something you can DO WITH KIDS.

It is something you can DO WITH FRIENDS.

And as a result you have a UNIQUE, INDIVIDUAL, ONE OF A KIND, handmade notebook

FOR YOU to use or

GIFT to a friend or family member.

Use your notebooks for

Journalling.

Art Journalling.

Travel Journalling.

Lists.

Poetry.

Notes.

Hopes.

Dreams.

Ideas.

Sketching.

Collaging

and more.

I love making notebooks and I love using materials that are free to me.

I do have to add a word of warning though – once you start to make notebooks, you may not want to stop!

Have Fun!

  1. love the idea of using envelopes this way. I tend to use the backs of envelopes to scribble notes etc when I’m working; but turning them into notebooks is more rewarding and seems like fun too

    1. I love making something from ‘nothing’!
